SubmissionsEcho: a music-centered journal invites contributions about music and musical experiences from all disciplines. Contributions may address music from any historical, geographic, or cultural moment. Reviews are usually solicited, but Echo does accept unsolicited reviews, which will go through a regular submissions process. Prospective authors should contact Echo with the topic or item for review before sending an article. Please see our list of Items Received for possible books and other materials for review. Items not on this list may be reviewed pending approval. Submissions: Articles follow The MLA Handbook of Style. A single hard copy of all necessary materials can be sent to:
Electronic submissions: We prefer authors to send submissions as e-mail attachments to echojour@humnet.ucla.edu. We prefer submissions in Microsoft Word, ASCII, or ASCII with HTML tags. If these formats are not possible, please specify the program and operating system used. If you wish to submit your own Web-ready images, sounds, or video clips, you may include them as separately attached items in your e-mail submission. Or you may prepare your document and all accompanying media files on your own local web server and simply supply us a URL to your site via e-mail. We encourage contributors to take advantage of the multimedia capabilities offered by the World Wide Web. If you wish to include images, sound, or video in your submission but do not have the capability to convert them into the below computer formats, Echo can provide assistance with image scanning, sound conversion, and video capturing/editing. Accepted submissions will be prepared in HTML format by Echo editors in consultation with the author. Graphics/Sound/Video: Sound files sent to Echo should preferably be raw audio files, either AIFF (Macintosh) or WAV (Windows). Video may be in any of a variety of formats, but should preferably be compatible with Apples Quick Time technology (.mov), and any video files should conform to the dimensions 320 pixels (width) X 240 pixels (height). Please indicate the placement of the image/audio/video clip in your document by referencing the exact filename and file type. Echo prefers short audio/video exampleslong enough to make a point but concise enough to be convenient to readers with slower Internet connections. We suggest using sound examples of around 30 seconds in length, and video examples of around 30 seconds; however, these times are negotiable in certain cases. For any such issues and other technical questions, please contact the editors at echojour@humnet.ucla.edu. Copyright: Please note: In the event that an article is accepted for publication, contributors are responsible for obtaining permission to include any copyrighted material (photographs, drawings, recorded sound, video, musical scores, and so on) submitted to Echo. |
