Help Using Echo

Media Access

Readers will require QuickTime for most sound and video files on Echo. If you are experiencing difficulties activating the media files on the Echo website, first make sure you have the latest version of Apple’s QuickTime software. This software is free from Apple’s website and can be obtained at: www.apple.com/quicktime. (As of March 2006, the latest version is 7.0.)

We are currently in the process of switching our media files onto a new server. You may find that some media files from older issues will not work if you are accessing the internet via a dial-up modem. We apologize for these difficulties; hopefully they will be resolved soon.

PDF Access

If you are experiencing difficulties viewing the PDF versions of articles or reviews, download the newest version of Adobe Acrobat (v4.0). This software is free from Adobe’s website and can be obtained at www.adobe.com.

What to do if the downloaded PDF appears blank?

Windows users: Try the link again, except this time “right-click” on the link and select “Save Target As ... .” Save the PDF on your hard drive and open it from there.

Macintosh users: Try the link again, except this time hold the mouse button down and select “Download Link To Disk” from the pop-up menu. Save the PDF on your hard drive and open the file from there.

Please send us email at echojour@humnet.ucla.edu if you have technical problems or suggestions and we will do our best to help you!
